From 7 JAN 08, notifications under Article 6.4 of the R&TTE Directive can now be filed electronically using a one-stop procedure for a
number of spectrum authorities. The currently participating countries are: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Slovakia,
Sweden and Switzerland (who also will handle the notifications for Liechtenstein). http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/rtte/spectr.htm (Background: http://ec.europa.eu/idabc/en/document/5363/5637#top)
The European Commission is expected to issue formal guidance on transition dates and interpretation of EN 301 893 following reports of 5
GHz WLAN equipment causing interference to meteorological radars employing non-constant pulse interval times (staggered or inter-leaved PRFs) in the 5600-5650 MHz band. The important immediate considerations
for mass market products are ability to deal with staggered PRF or complete avoidance of the 5600 – 5650 MHz part of the band. Some technical background information is available from the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN

From 20 October 2005, certain Air Traffic Management equipment comes within the scope of the R&TTE Directive. This arises as a result
of the repeal of Council Directive 93/65/EEC which formed the basis of the exclusion set out in by Annex 1 item 6 of the R&TTE directive. More information and a guidance document is available from: http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterprise/rtte/aer_equip.htm
General Background
The R&TTE Directive sets out a regulatory framework for radio and telecommunications terminal equipment in the European Union. Such
apparatus must comply with certain essential requirements.
There is a choice of conformity assessment procedures but, in general, the manufacturer or his authorised representative must maintain
technical documentation that includes a declaration of conformity and that shows how compliance is achieved.
For radio equipment, it may be necessary to involve a notified body in the conformity assessment procedure. CE marking must be applied to indicate compliance.
The text of the directive can be downloaded from the European Commission website: http://www.europa.eu.int/comm/enterprise/rtte/dir99-5.htm

RTTEnet takes its name from the RTTE (or R&TTE, Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment) Directive, 1999/5/EC of
the European Union. This legislation sets the essential requirements for radio & telecom terminal equipment and places the burden of responsibility for compliance on those involved in its design, manufacture and
supply to the EU market.
